Martin Luther King Day March 2026

 The date is approaching fast and we’re making preparations join us for the march and then a special presentation and events at the Dudley School Community Center. Meet us at the Lowes Grocery Store Parking lot as we gather to march down 10th Street, down to New York Avenue to 8th Street then to Maryland ending at the historically refurbished Dudley Community Center. Don't miss out!

MLK Freedom March

Theme  Martin Luther King Jr. Day 2026 will be observed under the national theme “Mission Possible II: Building Community, Uniting a Nation the Nonviolent Way,” highlighting Dr. King’s vision of the Beloved Community and nonviolent action. 


Start Time: 10:00 AM
Starting Point: Lowes Grocery Store Parking Lot near 10th Street
Route: 10th Street to New York Avenue, down New York Avenue to 8th Street then onward to Maryland, Maryland to the Dudley School Community Center for activities and speakers beginning at 11 am.

The annual MLK Freedom March invites residents of all ages, schools, churches, and civic groups to walk together in unity. Participants may hold banners with quotes from Dr. King and from local leaders who have embodied his values of courage, compassion, and community service. Signs should be respectful and family friendly in tone. Local bands and ROTC cadets from area High Schools are invited to the parade, as well as veterans’ groups and faith-based organizations.

Dudley School Events

Start Time: 11:00 AM
Location: Dudley School Community Center, Maryland Avenue, Alamogordo

What to Expect: Dudley School Community Center attendees will be treated to educational displays, guest speakers, proclamations and special activities until 2 pm.

Special March Style Luncheon

Experience a special luncheon in the style of sacked lunches as pieced together for marchers in the era of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.  (limited quantity - a few food vendors may also be on site as an alternative option outdoors)

Join us for the annual Dr Martin Luther King Day March and Celebration Events

Where?

Beginning at the parking lot of Lowes Grocery Store on 10th Street at 10 am and ending at the Dudley School Community Center on Maryland for 11 am activities until 2 pm.

Why?

 The Alamogordo community will come together on January 19th, 2026, to honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. through a march and events dedicated to reflection, unity, and service. These gatherings highlight the ongoing pursuit of civil rights and equality, reminding us that Dr. King’s work continues today.


The day also offers meaningful opportunities for volunteerism and community engagement, echoing Dr. King’s belief in service as a powerful force for change. As we march, participate, and reflect, we reaffirm our shared commitment to justice and to building a more equitable society for all.
